Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Indigenous language broadcasting plays a critical role in bridging communication gaps in multilingual societies, especially in regions with diverse ethnic groups. In Gwarzo Local Government Area, Kano State, indigenous language radio programs have been used to foster peace and resolve conflicts between different ethnic and religious groups. These programs help disseminate messages of unity, understanding, and reconciliation, leveraging cultural nuances and local knowledge to address conflicts at the grassroots level (Hassan & Ibrahim, 2023; Umar & Musa, 2024). This study examines the role of indigenous language broadcasting in conflict resolution in Gwarzo, focusing on how radio programs in local languages contribute to peacebuilding efforts.
